The egg and the hen reading for kids | kids reading | reading kids

The chicken egg is one of the most consumed foods in the world. This type of egg is not the only edible one, as the eggs of other animals such as quail, duck and ostrich can also be cooked. The sizes are very different, with the quail being the smallest and the ostrich, which can weigh up to 1.3 kg, the largest.

As we all know, hens are oviparous and lay one egg a day. The eggs may or may not be fertilized. If the rooster and the hen mate, the eggs are fertilized; It is then that the hen incubates them for 21 days to provide them with warmth and protection with her body. After that time, the chicks hatch. The eggs that we buy in the market have not been fertilized, so no matter how much a hen incubates them, a chick will never hatch from them.

The chicken egg usually weighs between 35 and 60 grams. The shell can be white or brown, but in both cases the composition and quality is the same. On a nutritional level, it is a food very rich in protein, vitamins and minerals, but best of all, it can be prepared in multiple ways: fried, grilled, boiled, poached… and it is always great!
